Consulting
Wellanbah Industrial is uniquely placed to offer comprehensive consulting services to assist clients in each stage of the closure and demolition process. These services include the design of demolition methods, engineering of structural pre-weakening, explicit dynamic modelling of collapse mechanisms, completion of vibration assessments, design of lift studies, and the development of detailed closure reports.
Throughout our years of operation, we have successfully executed innumerable projects which have required the implementation of various demolition techniques including explosive induced collapse, non-explosive induced collapse (pre-weakening), mechanical demolition, installation of temporary supports prior to collapse, partial demolition, complex lifts, truncating prestressed elements etc. The majority of these projects were completed for significant mining, manufacturing, or power generation entities and, as such, safety and quality were the paramount considerations at all times. Based on this experience, we are able to design demolition methods which are founded upon solid precedents and robust engineering analysis, whilst ensuring the application of the safest and most pragmatic cost-effective solution is achieved. In addition, we have the ability to undertake explicit dynamic analyses of collapse mechanisms, which assesses the behaviour of a structure during the collapse. This is highly useful in mitigating the risk of partial stand ups, it allows for the analysis of secondary demolition effects such as ground vibration, and it provides an accurate visual representation of the planned collapse which can be presented to clients.
We also develop detailed closure reports which allow asset owners to plan for the eventual decommissioning, demolition and remediation of their site. The closure reports can be customised to meet a client’s particular needs, but typically will include key planning information such as cost estimates, programs, resourcing requirements, material take-offs, recycling strategies and staging plans. In addition, we are able to develop preliminary methodologies and facilitate the risk assessment process during the project planning phase based on anticipated execution requirements.
Our Services
Whether completing explosive or non-explosive induced collapse methods, our team includes highly experienced Chartered Structural Engineers which can analyse the weakening of structures to accommodate a proposed demolition method to ensure an adequate factor of safety to prevent premature collapse. We can also provide professional advice on industry appropriate applications of various demolition techniques that may be suitable for a given structure.
During the collapse of significant industrial structures in close proximity to sensitive sites, ground vibration becomes a critical execution risk that must be managed. We have the capability to calculate the expected peak vibrations and design mitigation measures to ensure vibration stays below allowable limits.
We assist clients in the development of closure plans, inclusive of cost estimates, resourcing requirements, material take-offs, scrap management strategies, project programs and staging plans. We can also develop preliminary methodologies and facilitate the risk assessment process during the project planning phase.
