Explosive Demolition
Wellanbah Industrial is a leading explosive demolition contractor which operates throughout Australia. Explosive demolition techniques are a safe and cost-effective option employed in circumstances where traditional induced collapse methods are deemed unsafe, unfeasible or cost prohibitive due to the magnitude of the structures or complexities in the structural system. Substantial industrial structures typically have highly loaded columns which cannot be safely pre-weakened to the point of extraction without compromising the global integrity of the structure. In addition, particular types of structures are best suited for explosive felling techniques from an economical perspective due to their tall slender nature or the presence of pre-tensioned members. Such structures can be safely brought to ground level in a single blast event with fewer resources and less time, in comparison to craneage, dismantling or top down methods, thus resulting in significant cost and program savings to the contractor.
Explosive demolition is also the most technically advanced and low risk demolition method as it eliminates the possibility of premature collapse due to the pre-weakening which is required for other demolition techniques. Explosives can be placed on the structure with minimal enabling works, following which time the entire site is vacated of personnel prior to initiating the charges from a safe distance and triggering the collapse of the structure. Once the structure is safely on grade, excavators are only required to process and load out the demolished material which reduces the risks associated with the interface between personnel and the demolished structure.
Our company has successfully executed numerous complex explosive demolition projects across Australia and have assisted clients in reducing the risk profile of a project whilst achieving a more economical solution. We have the ability to apply explosive demolition techniques to a vast array of structural types and are able to develop innovative solutions to meet any site specific requirements such as proximity to retained assets, noise limitations, or allowable vibration.
